Employee background-What is your title and what do you do at Valbridge?
I am a Senior Managing Director of the Valbridge | Virginia offices, and a member of the national Board of Directors. I have a BS in Finance from Penn State and an MS in Real Estate and Construction Management from the University of Denver. I hold the MAI designation and have been appraising real estate for 30 years.
How did you become a part of Valbridge?
My partner in Virginia, Mike Berry, and I founded and operated Axial Advisory Group, LLC for years. We were a boutique real estate appraisal firm doing business in MD, DC, VA, and NC. We were contacted by the folks putting Valbridge together to see if we’d be interested in becoming part of an independent, national appraisal firm. We quickly saw the synergy that the opportunity to team up with some of the best firms in the nation would create, and decided we wanted to take part.
What are your specialty areas?
I’ve been appraising for 30 years, and I’ve been exposed to a wide range of property types and markets. I’ve appraised property for lending, litigation (eminent domain and not), accounting, and other intended uses for a wide range of clients in the public and private sectors. As a result, I consider myself a strong generalist, able to tackle most assignments.
What are some of the most interesting projects you’ve worked on at Valbridge?
- A 60-property, billion-dollar portfolio of mixed commercial assets including numerous trophy properties.
- A 20-property self-storage portfolio
- A 100-property convenience store portfolio
- Tax appeal involving a 500,000 SF cold-storage facility
- Former military installation
What do you like most about working at Valbridge?
Valbridge is independent. We do not have the potential interest conflict brought on by affiliation with a full-service real estate firm. Our offices are run by local experts, but our reach is extended by the data and expertise we can bring to the table from other offices. This way we can serve clients in numerous capacities, far more than any individual appraisal office.
