Name: Ginger Lord
Title: Senior Appraiser
Date: August 2019
VPA Office: Atlana
The first eight years of my professional career were in a managerial and paralegal role working for two of the major national real estate franchising entities before leaving the corporate world to enter the appraisal field.
What is your title and what do you do at Valbridge?
As a Senior Appraiser for Valbridge Property Advisors | Atlanta, I not only perform appraisals, but I have also volunteered to serve as trainer/mentor to newly licensed trainee appraisal associates.
Appraisal work involves any and all property types for a variety of users and purposes, including lending institutions, litigation, estate settlement, tax appeal, and eminent domain.
My role as trainer/mentor involves training and guidance on everything from how to measure buildings, research and verifications, to the finer points of making credible and supported conclusions and, of course, maximizing the use of Datappraise.
How did you become a part of Valbridge?
I left the day-to-day appraising role in 2009 to accept an opportunity as an executive for a national appraisal management company tasked with development, training, management, and growth of a staff of experienced commercial and residential appraisers to act as review appraisers.
After six years, and a finely tuned staff of 30 review appraisers in place, I made the decision to return to appraising in the fall of 2015. I missed the variety of challenges and diversity that appraising work routinely brings. I had an established working relationship with Ken Cantrell and Jeff Miller, knew them well, and Valbridge | Atlanta was my firm of choice. Fortunate for me, they had a place for me when I was ready to make a move!
What are your specialty areas?
I do not have a designated specialty but welcome the unusual and complex ones! I do love a challenge. I also enjoy utilizing my experience in development and training to mentor others new to the profession.
What are some of the most interesting projects you’ve worked on at Valbridge?
I have been involved in some very interesting projects since joining Valbridge; a 1,100+ acre sustainable and green field development community, avigation easements, development air right swaps, and conversion of historically designed urban rail yard to a mixed-use project focused on the film industry, to name a few.
What do you like most about working at Valbridge?
The people! The Atlanta team is the best group of people anyone could hope to work with, and I have found the same to be true with others I have had the fortune to meet and work with across the country in Valbridge.
I joined the Valbridge Women’s Council, volunteered initially to be part of the Membership Committee and that involvement led to a Co-Chair position for the Mentorship Committee, a passion of mine.
The people, talent, and professionalism are a blessing to be a part of and truly Valbridge’s distinguishing asset.
