Valbridge Employee Spotlight

Name: Craig Huber, MAI, CCIM
Title: Senior Managing Director
Date: 09-23-20
VPA Office: East Tennessee

Employee background:

I was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, and while I did venture away for some time, I have returned and have been in business here for the last 30 years.

More important to me, and also 30 years this year, I married my high school sweetheart (Stephanie) and as they say I "married up”. We are blessed to have three wonderful kids of which one is left at home, so the empty nest is only a couple of years away.

With the above, don’t go thinking that my life has been subdued or even boring. I have all the bumps, bruises and scars of a pretty darn interesting life. Admittedly calmed down in my later years, the activity de jour in recently has been traveling with our retro camper to awesome outdoor places. Much more of a “glamping” deal than roughing it.

In the realm of real estate, I have invested in and developed several interesting projects to include some of reasonable significance. As mentioned, life has been interesting. I hope it stays that way.

What is your title and what do you do at Valbridge?

I am a Senior Managing Director in East Tennessee and am graced with two local business partners.

How did you become a part of Valbridge?

I was blessed to be on the initial list made by Steve Bullock and was honored to be at the initial meeting in Boston. Many in that room were wanting to experiment with national affiliation, but it took Steve Bullock’s passion, guts and time to make it happen. Thanks so much Steve!

What are your specialty areas?

I primarily appraise single tenant net leased properties (STNL) throughout the Southeast. Before we all think life is roses, all specialties have their challenges, and they are usually worth doing only if you give them extra time and effort in order to do them well.

What are some of the most interesting projects you’ve worked on at Valbridge?

I was hired to appraise 60+ Dollar General stores for which I used other Valbridge firms to assist. Having access to people that could help me get the project done was a real asset. Valbridge offers many different aids and opportunities that each person involved is undoubtedly positively impacted in some way or other.

What do you like most about working at Valbridge?

Being able to communicate with top quality peers about how this job can and should be done in the future. All jobs change and evolve. As they do, it is awesome to have a group to work with as we each try to find the best path forward.

Additional information you want to include in your spotlight:

Instead of dreading the changes which are inevitable in our industry, we should use some of our thought time each day on taking advantage of these changes. I very much enjoy the challenge of determining how to do my job better and more efficiently every day. The strong will survive, and you need to remain active to remain strong.
