Employee background:

I started my appraisal career in 1992 after graduating from Miami University (Ohio). After working for an office with two MAI appraisers for nine years, I co-founded an office named Akron Appraisal Group in 2001 with my business partner – Gary Barker. Our firm did primarily commercial properties for lending purposes, and a fair amount of right-of-way work. I pursued the MAI designation path from the Appraisal Institute, which I obtained in 2010. I subsequently earned the CCIM designation from the CCIM Institute in 2014. I currently work as a Candidate Advisor with the Appraisal Institute.

What is your title and what do you do at Valbridge?

Senior Managing Director of the Akron, Ohio office. My role consists of appraisal originations, consulting, litigation support, and day-to-day office operations.

How did you become a part of Valbridge?

We were contacted by Steve Bullock and he told us of his vision of forming a nationwide appraisal company. So we went to Cambridge, Massachusetts, and met with 17 other firms who were also intrigued by the idea that Steve had. They say if you’re the smartest guy in the room, you need to find a different room. It became clear, pretty quickly, that I did not need to find another room. By the end of the second day of the meeting, we all decided to throw our lots together and we began the work of building Valbridge Property Advisors.

What are your specialty areas?

I do a variety of commercial property types, but mostly industrial and multi-family.

What do you like most about working at Valbridge?

The incredible level of intelligence and breadth of experience of our members. I love that no matter what valuation problem that a client presents to me if I don’t have the experience to deal with it, it’s almost assured that someone in Valbridge has dealt with that property type or issue and is willing to assist or to take on the project.
