I graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in Farm Management. I began my career as an appraiser with the Santa Barbara County Assessor’s Office in November 1979. From 1983 to 2020 I was an appraiser and then a principal with Schenberger, Taylor, McCormick & Jecker Inc. in San Luis Obispo. Our firm was acquired by Mike Burger MAI, with Valbridge Central California.

I also teach the Rural Property Appraisal class for the Agribusiness Department, Cal Poly SLO.

What is your title and what do you do at Valbridge?

I am a Senior Appraiser, and together with our great team, we complete appraisals of a variety of property types.

How did you become a part of Valbridge?

Our firm was acquired by Valbridge Central California.

What are your specialty areas?

I appraise mostly farms and ranches, including appraisals for conservation easements. I also appraise properties for public acquisition, such as roadways, easements, etc.

What are some of the most interesting projects you've worked on at Valbridge?

Due to the number of large ocean-front ranches, and other coastal properties in Central California, over my career, I have appraised over 55 miles of Pacific Coast shoreline. So, I have been fortunate in working with many very cool properties.

What do you like most about working at Valbridge?

A great team environment, and the availability of support from colleagues throughout the Valbridge community.

I was recently honored with the “2022 Agricultural Appraiser of the Year Award”, by the California Chapter of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers, which was deeply humbling. ASFMRA is the nation’s premier organization of professionals who adhere to exceptionally high standards for education, ethics, and performance in appraisal and management of agricultural properties and consulting for agribusiness. The California Chapter is one of 31 chapters affiliated with the national organization. The California Chapter is the second largest ASFMRA Chapter in the country and takes pride in being an innovator for Western Ag Professionals.

I enjoy fishing, good music, average red wine, and playing old-person basketball, ideally with other old people. My wife Heather and I live in San Luis Obispo, with our tireless Labrador puppy JoJo. We have two adult children, Kyle and Mikayla.
