Valbridge Appraises a Piece of San José History at Fountain Alley

Valbridge Property Advisors | Northern California recently completed an appraisal assignment for the City of San José involving a distinctive property at Fountain Alley in downtown San José.

The property includes the historic Knox-Goodrich building, a recognized San José historic landmark. For our team, the assignment offered an opportunity to look beyond traditional valuation considerations and understand a property with more than a century of history.

Original architectural details, including historic tile and layers of wallpaper dating back to around 1900, offer a glimpse into the property’s past and the generations of San José’s history.

Appraising historic properties requires careful consideration of their physical character, preservation requirements, market context, and potential future use. Our work for the City provided an independent valuation perspective to support its real estate decision-making as San José continues to invest in and shape the future of downtown.

This assignment was an opportunity to bring our valuation expertise to a property where real estate, history, preservation, and the future of downtown San José intersect.
