Born and raised in the Washington, DC suburbs of northern Virginia, I completed a BFA in Geography at Syracuse University and a MS in Real Estate at Johns Hopkins, I have followed my career goals, starting in public sector rolls in Fairfax County DPW and then planning in the Philadelphia suburbs for Chester County PA and Baltimore suburbs for Harford County MD. Then moved on to the private sector for an appraisal firm, an architecture/engineering firm, solo practice and then landed at Valbridge Property Advisors. I have been at this for over 30 years now. My experience has gained certifications and membership on several boards and associations and recognition as a tenured expert in the fields of planning and market analysis.
What is your title and what do you do at Valbridge?
I am a Managing Director of the Baltimore-Washington DC regional office, specializing in market analysis and specialized planning projects. I manage a team of analysts and cross-disciplinary projects with appraisers and partner consultants outside of the firm.
How did you become a part of Valbridge?
I was subcontracting to appraisers and market analysts and then David Brooks brought the idea of Valbridge Property Advisors to my attention, we created the opportunity to join in and be a specialist leader in the new Baltimore Washington DC office.
What are your specialty areas?
I am a certified land planner, with a strong background in regulation, site design and entitlement, as well as project management. My focus specialty service to clients is to assist with the most beneficial site use and development. I provide analysis of market realities and projections, and how to implement the most advantageous site design and functionality to meet project goals and objectives, coordinating with the entire consultant team on any given project. I perform fiscal impact analysis, tax increment financing (TIF) bond studies, LIHTC and HUD housing studies, zoning analysis, and a lot of expert witness work.
What are some of the most interesting projects you've worked on at Valbridge?
Real Estate value impact analysis for groundwater contamination impacts; TIF bond analysis for several major mixed-use developments with thousands of homes; Hotel demand analysis for a big city and a small town; Fiscal Impact Analysis for adequate public facilities legislation; Workforce studies; Gas station needs analysis and testimony.
What do you like most about working at Valbridge?
The people in this company are all professional and self-motivated. Everybody is marching in the same direction, friendly and extremely experienced in their specialties. It is great to know that the answer to peculiar questions is a simple telephone call away.
I am representative of a unique line of work at Valbridge that is not appraisal, but still integral to the real estate development continuum of services. There are many specialists in the Valbridge professional pool, and we can cover those topics across the country. Market analysis is required in every state for some projects like LIHTC and HUD financed housing and other uses, as required by the financial industry and local authorities. Valbridge has the resources to manage and perform these studies from multiple offices.
