Name: Matthew Lubawy, MAI, CVA
Title: Senior Managing Director
Date: July 20, 2022
VPA Office: Valbridge Property Advisors | Las Vegas, Reno

Employee background:

I am a founding member of Valbridge Property Advisors along with 17 other firms.

What is your title and what do you do at Valbridge?

I am the Senior Managing Director of the Las Vegas and Reno offices. I manage the Las Vegas and Reno offices and oversee a staff of 16 employees. I am also the National Director of Lodging and Gaming and have worked with our team members in developing our proprietary valuation process for lodging properties.

How did you become a part of Valbridge?

I was contacted by Steve Bullock, who was the original founder of what was to later become Valbridge Property Advisors. Steve was the visionary who reached out to all of the founding members to start a national appraisal firm that has now grown to be the largest national independent appraisal company in the country.

What are your specialty areas?

I specialize in hospitality and gaming properties as well as fractional interest valuations.

What are some of the most interesting projects you've worked on at Valbridge?

Valbridge has given me the opportunity to work on projects that I might not have otherwise been able to appraise if I was not a part of Valbridge. I have had the opportunity to appraise a minor league baseball stadium, prison, as well as a couple of marinas. I was able to work with our other offices, some of whom specialize in these property types. Our other offices collaborated with me and provided information that would have been much harder to research or obtain on my own. I have also worked with other Valbridge offices on casino or hotel assignments across the country for tax appeals, and I have provided support to other offices that need my assistance.

What do you like most about working at Valbridge?

I enjoy the comradery with our other offices and the close friendships that I have made across the country. We meet twice a year for shareholder meetings, and it feels like a family reunion each time we meet. We always try to mix in a little fun with each meeting including several ski trips, baseball games, city tours, and other ventures such as the Jack Daniels Distillery tour when we had our shareholders meeting in Nashville.

Additional information:

I am happily married to my wife of 36 years, Angie who is co-owner of our Nevada offices. Angie handles all bookkeeping and payroll functions and manages both offices. She is constantly promoting new ideas to help run our office more efficiently and profitably. It would be a much harder endeavor to run the company without her. We have four children and one grandchild who all live out of state. I enjoy playing golf, skiing, and snowmobiling as well as traveling.
