This Valbridge office is a powerhouse team in the commercial appraisal world, combining strong leadership and forward-thinking in client service.

We recently conducted a Q&A with their team to learn more about who they are, what drives them, and what makes their office truly unique within Valbridge.

Q: When was your office founded, and who leads the team today?

Our firm is a combination of three Valbridge firms, which themselves comprise legacy boutique firms that joined Valbridge years ago. The Kansas City and Indianapolis locations have been providing commercial valuation services for over four decades. Firm ownership is shared by seven equity partners, three of whom are the third generation of leadership in their offices. Six of the partners are MAI-designated appraisers. In addition to experienced MAI-level experts, we have four senior executives in leadership to run our nearly 60-person firm. Our office locations include the main offices in Kansas City, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Indianapolis, with satellite offices in St. Louis, Fargo, Portland

Oregon, and we are about to open in Chicago. Due to our geographic footprint, we call ourselves “MidStates” as a nickname.

Q: What makes your office or region unique within Valbridge?

Our firm is unique in Valbridge, not only due to our extensive coverage of nearly 25% of the land mass in the continental U.S., but we are demographically younger than many appraisal firms. We have grown substantially with new hires in the last three years, with many fresh out of the top real estate programs in the country. Right now, our firm’s average age is 30.

This helps us combine the wisdom of the seasoned, experienced leaders with fresh perspectives and strong technological skill sets, as well as setting us up well to ensure we have a strong talent pipeline to serve clients with the strong quality and service that they have come to rely on us for.

Q: Describe your team culture in three words.

Obsessive client service.

Q: Do you have any fun office traditions or community activities?

As a way to capture the Scandinavian culture that is prevalent in our Minnesota office, we have a monthly Friday morning virtual coffee date for the whole team called “Friday Fika.” Fika is a Swedish tradition where people carve out a bit of time in the day to enjoy a hot cup of coffee, often a pastry, and non-work time with friends or colleagues. Because our team is spread out among seven states, this helps us connect, laugh, and feel like a cohesive whole.

Q: Did you have any interns this past summer?

We had three! One of them has now joined our team as a full-time appraiser trainee.

Q: Any Professional organizations you belong to / volunteer with? AI, IRWA, etc…

Our team members are active members of The Appraisal Institute, including chapter presidents and regional chairs, IRWA, CREW, local Chambers of Commerce, ULI, local Estate Planning Council chapters and CCIM, to name a few. We believe in active community engagement and service.

Q: How many generations of appraisers have worked in your offices?

We are on our fourth generation in two of the legacy offices.

Q: Any honors of distinction?

Yes! We won the Professional Service Company of the Year from the REJournals this past spring!
